Children can usually begin piano lessons from around age five, when they are able to understand basic instructions and communicate comfortably.Adults can start piano lessons at any age, whether learning for the first time or returning after a long break.

Yes. ABRSM piano exam preparation can be offered as part of the lesson programme for students who choose to take graded examinations. To date, students preparing for ABRSM piano exams with us have achieved a 100% pass rate, with many receiving Merit and Distinction results.

Piano lesson fees at Alpha Piano Studio are structured on a monthly basis. Lessons are conducted weekly and priced at $280 per month for four 45-minute lessons, $320 per month for four 1-hour lessons, and $360 per month for jazz piano lessons. Fees cover regular weekly instruction and are billed monthly.

How long it takes to learn the piano varies from person to person. Progress depends on individual learning aptitude — such as observation skills, memory, and pattern recognition — as well as the amount of practice time between lessons. 

Goals also play a significant role. Learning to play simple accompaniments for singing can often be achieved within a few months, while developing the ability to play solo piano pieces typically takes longer. With consistent practice, we have had adult beginners progress to playing pop piano arrangements around a Grade 2–3 difficulty within one to one and a half years.

Learning the piano independently is possible in theory. In reality, the process involves many layers that are difficult to navigate without feedback, and progress can easily stall or drift without clear direction. Guided lessons provide the structure needed to move forward with confidence.
